Now as part of my Big Hair Don’t Care series, I will be focusing on all this natural hair care and giving you an idea of things that are beneficial for your hair and ensuring you have an enjoyable natural hair journey all in all. I kick started this on Sunday with some top tips on caring for your hair. If you haven’t seen that post just yet, you can check it out here.
I have been trialling some new products over the past few weeks, and I have to say I have seen huge improvement in my hair’s general health and texture! What’s my secret remedy, well it’s called As I Am. I purchased these from Amazon.co.uk having read a few of the reviews on the website.
Well if you have never heard of this brand before, you will be in the same boat as I was before I came across it. As I Am® products were born out of a well-thought out, deliberate and caring process and designed by Dr. Ali N. Syed, a master hair care chemist and entrepreneur
Women of colour have naturally coily and curly hair textures and he devised these products with women like you and me in mind who often struggle to find the perfect product.
As I Am products contain many organic ingredients such as Amla, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, among many others, and they are safe to use on children too. This was one of the main reasons I was drawn to this product. I normally use Cantu products, but I decided to invest a little bit more into my hair care and, this was definitely worth the extra spending money.
I decided on getting 3 key products from the hair care range and here are my thoughts on these;
As I Am Curl Clarity Shampoo
- Gently removes product build up and environmental impurities from the hair and scalp.
- Sulfate- free. Will not strip hair of the precious natural moisture that makes it thrive.
- Leaves behind moisture, preventing hair from becoming dried out, rough-looking and unmanageable.
- Safe for color-treated hair.
- After use, your hair will be ready to receive again all of the good things you give it for style and maintenance.
Aqua/Water/Eau, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Powder, Phyllanthus Emblica Fruit Powder, Citrus Reticulata (Tangerine) Fruit Extract, Glucose, Fragrance/Parfum (Limonene), Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Lactoperoxidase, Glucose Oxidase, Sodium Chloride
The Curl Clarity Shampoo lathered really well and was really easy to work through my hair. It is scented but this isn’t an overwhelming or overpowering smell at all. It is delicately fragranced and I found it quite delightful. My hair was squeaky clean as promised but remained soft and nourished. I was really glad about this as I feared my hair would be left bone dry and desert looking given that it is a clarifying shampoo. All in all this was a perfect product to add to my hair regimen.
As I am Leave-In- Conditioner
- Eases wet combing
- Helps strengthen hair
- Seals the cuticle layer
- Supports healthy hair growth
- Adds moisture and shine
- Prepares your hair for styling
- Especially beneficial if custard, gel or setting cream is to be applied for final styling
Aqua/Water/Eau, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Powder, Phyllanthus Emblica Fruit Powder, Beta Vulgaris (Beet) Root Extract, Phytosterols, Serenoa Serrulata Fruit Extract, Glycerin, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Glycerin, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Glycerin, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Glycerin, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugarcane) Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Betaine, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Polyacrylamide, Fragrance/Parfum (Anise Alcohol, Coumarin, Limonene)
The Leave-in Conditioner was similarly scented which was a bonus, given that you will be keeping this in your hair you’d still want it to smell good right? Upon application my hair just soaked up the product leaving it soft and forming a beautiful curl pattern. My hair looking very well nourished and perfectly content and this was something I was very much impressed by. My hair was extremely easy to detangle and this was really helpful as I minimal shedding compared to other products.

Last but definitely not least, was the DoubleButter Cream. This was one of my favourite products out of the collection. Having used other moisturisers before I always felt like I had to slap on most of the bottle to get some moisture through my hair. It says to apply a small amount which is definitely true. A little definitely goes a long way with this product! With ablend of shea butter, coconut and castor oil, this product goes above and beyond to ensure your hair is left silky smooth and moisturised too.!
Having used these products for the first time, I was more than impressed with their performances overall and will definitely be repurchasing these to replenish my stocks. They are admittedly a bit more pricier, but the pay off in terms of strengthen and maintain your hair health is something that is priceless! If you have really dry hair like I had, then you will definitely benefit from purchasing and trying out the As I Am hair care range. There are several other items in their product range which I hope to try in future, but for the time being I am more than impressed with these products! If you are on the search for these, they are available on Amazon, Pak Cosmetics, Look Fantastic and Mankind too.
