Beauty: Polynesian Paradise

Happy Thursday!!

Hope you are all having a brilliant week so far…

If not, here’s a mini mid-week treat for you.

Every black girl I know is always searching for the answers to all their beauty problems, a perfect foundation. As part of my foundation series, I am on a quest to find the ideal product that provides good coverage without clogging up your pores, staying power and at a reasonable price.

Luckily for you, I have the time to try them out and feed this back to you… without having to break the budget too!

I have been on the hunt for a good foundation for the past couple of months. Something that was light and didn’t make me feel like I was wearing  a mask.

I found the answer!

Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint.

This is my second tango with Nars products and this has been a rather fruitful find for me, so here’s my take on this product:

Colour Match:

Now just to give you some perspective, I am the following shades in foundations:

MAC Studio Fix Fluid – NW48

MAC Matchmaster – 8.5

Lancome Teint Idole Foundation – 14

NARS Luminous Foundation – Khartoum

I was thankfully able to find a match within this range, but there are about 12 shades in this product line. I was fortunately a perfect match for the darkest shade in the colour spectrum, Polynesia.

If you are ever struggle colour matching yourself, you can always check findation.com as they give helpful colour matches based on your current makeup brand and shade.

Coverage:

I would say this is about medium coverage, buildable to full coverage if needed. The product says it’s a tint, but from what I saw it performs higher than its description. I would categorise this as almost a foundation. If you are looking for something full coverage, you may have to opt for a different product. Although this is an enhanced tint (almost foundation) , you will have be bear that in mind in terms of your coverage expectations.

A top tip to achieve full coverage without too much product would be colour correction and concealing products. I will touch on this beauty solution very soon.

Sun Protection:

This product as SPF30 which is absolutely brilliant to protect your skin from sun damage. Most beauty products normally have a lower sun protection factor, my general consensus being SPF15. With this product you get bags more!

Application:

The product is a thick consistency, but you’ll find that a little definitely goes a long way. It glides on like an absolute dream and feels light and airy. On application, this is feels less of a liquid and more a souffle or mousse texture. The product moves effortlessly against the skin with minimal effort and you don’t feel like you have to dig deep to get it moving either.

Availability:

Nars has only started being more easily accessible in the United Kingdom so availabity wise there is still more to do to ensure everyone gets a chance to test and try them out. They are in House of Fraser, Selfridges, John Lewis, Space NK and Amazon to name a few. I was able to get my product from ASOS so my package arrived safely on a next day delivery service.

Price:

From a price point, this is around the £30.00 and this is what I paid when I purchased it from ASOS.comI couldn’t find anywhere that did this for any less. As it is a higher end product, this is about the same price point for other tints or tinted moisturisers across the board.

The Verdict:

All in all, this was a worthwhile product in terms of colour match and coverage. I love the application and its light and airy feel as I felt like I didn’t have any makeup on. It performs better than a skin tint and I would liken it to being a foundation in its own right. Perfect for summer with a high SPF and for the girl who doesn’t like too much makeup or the full glam look.

My only two qualms with it would be transfer as I thought being a tint, that there would be less transfer. Working with white paper all day definitely makes it difficult, but maybe I should touch my face less. The other thing is the colour range doesn’t cater to people who are darker than me, so there could be improvements in providing a wider shade offering for darker skinned beauties out there too.

Have you tried this foundation yet and if so what did you make of it?

Can you recommend any new products that you might want me to check out or ones that are definitely worth a purchase?

Please let me know in the comments section below. I would love to hear from you all.

Until my next post…

Stay blushing!

    1. I had never tried it until I came across it myself. The only BB cream I had tried was the Sleek one. It is definitely well worth a try, if you do test it out I’d love to know your thoughts on it. Thanks for checking out my review Myyalia 😊😊
