So summer is literally weeks away and I’m dreading the heat and the pressure to look good. I decided to get ahead of it this year, but beginning my fitness regimen earlier. This came with great benefits as I have shed quite a few pounds already. There is definitely some more to go, which I aim to address as part of my challenge.
We all get stuck in a rut just weeks before summer begins and go on a crash diet/workout regimen to shed pounds we have gradually gained over months if not years. Weight loss is a gradual process and the best loss is done over an extended period of time.
Balance is key as with everything, so this is not going to be a starve yourself skinny challenge. I aim on adopting a few measures to ensure I strike that all importance balance.
So here is what I am going to be doing over the next 30 days:
Tracking my Progress:
How many steps does it take?
There are loads of tracking devices and apps out there to help with keep a record of all your daily workouts and activities. There’s things like the Fitbit, Garmin, Jawbone and so on to keep you on the move and striving to do better. I don’t have one of these, but it may be a future accquisition. Right now I have a simple and cost effective alternative, which is the app!
My personal recommendation and all time favourite is Runkeeper! This is by far the most useful and beneficial app that I have ever downloaded…. that and Candy Crush obviously.
A great GPS enabled application also available on Apple & Android markets that calculates calorie burning activities; fantastic for running, jogging and walking as it calculates tailored calories burnt for level of activity done.
Runkeeper gives you training programmes for weight loss, challenges and helps track your weight loss and improve your perfomance overall. This is available on Android and Iphones too and is free to download, so we have no excuses here!

What did you eat today?
My next tool for ensuring my weight loss is MyFitnessPal . It is a food tracking application available on iPhone and Android Market, that allows you to track food intake and is effective when used HONESTLY and FREQUENTLY. This is also web-based, allowing you to update your meals even when you aren’t near your phone. It combines calorie intake with weight tracking and activity tracking. A key tool in my most recent weight loss, something influential in helping curb my bad eating habits.
Both Runkeeper and MyFitnessPal can be linked and your Runkeeper activities are fed into your MyFitnessPal account allowing you to be able to see how much of your food intake you have offset by exercising.

Smoothies & Meal Replacement Shakes:
This part of my 30 day challenge will test my endurance and willpower as I aim to incorporate smoothies and shakes within my diet to get key nutrients and reduce my calorie intake.
There are loads of green smoothie recipes on the internet so I will definitely be trying these out over next couple of weeks. In addition to that I have also decided to use some meal replacement/protein shakes as part of my diet. This will be a substitute for one or two of my meals each day. I will try my best to document all of this.
I’ve found renewed strength in my weight loss journey and really want to smash my goals and continually live a healthy lifestyle. So here I am again… ready to beat the living daylights out of my chubby cells and I say this with violent fitness driven vigour. I shall be the ‘ALI’ of fitness freaks punching out and demolishing every fat cell in my body till it hits the mat, like Ali hit Foreman.
I always like to start of my workout week on a Sunday, I’m sure there are those of you that will do this very differently. I can appreciate that all the same and if you would like to follow and participate in this journey, you are more than welcome too. Any start is always a good thing, as long as you are starting you are on your way to reaching your goals.
I am going to keep you up to date with my fitness goals throughout the next 30 days and I will be tracking my progress. So here’s to getting those summer bodies right! More importantly here’s to healthy bodies and making good on the goals we set ourselves.
